RCS congratulates livestock producer of the year
12 September 2011
A roar of cheers erupted from the crowd at the 2011 Australian Farmer of the Year Awards when Tom Gubbins from Te Mania Angus was named Australia’s Livestock Producer of the Year.
In 1928, Te Mania was founded in New Zealand by Tom’s grandfather and then brought to Australia 43 years later.
As a result of perfecting their gene pool and a lot of hard work and determination, Te Mania’s herd now spans 1600 breeding cows and is the leader in Breedplan numbers in the Angus herd in Australia.
The award for the Gubbins family is well deserved according to The Director of RCS, Terry McCosker, who has been guest speaker at the Te Mania group annual workshops in Victoria where he has presented information about grazing management and carbon farming.
“I am very pleased to congratulate Tom on his win. He is an industry leader in measuring traits in animals and his business is very innovative. The way they operate both as a business and a family is great.” says Terry.
“After visiting their main property recently you can see it is under intensive grazing management and is a very well run operation” says Terry. ” says Terry.
“Te Mania are running up to 500 bulls in a mob, now I don’t know anyone else in Australia or the world that is doing this. It is quite remarkable.” says Terry.
With a number of the staff at Te Mania having completed RCS’ internationally recognised Grazing for Profit School, it has helped guide the grazing management, which is more difficult in a stud situation.
RCS is Australia’s best known provider of holistic training and consulting in the agricultural sector and continue to produce award winning graduates Australia wide.

Dr. Patrick MacManaway’s subtle success
7 January 2011
December saw the worlds leading practitioner of subtle energy, land on Australian soil for the second time this year to hold the inaugural Quantum Leap Level One workshop and give private consultation services to participants.
Dr. Patrick MacManaway has long been seen as one of the world’s top experts of Subtle Energy and travelled from England all the way to Australia to impart his knowledge and practices with RCS clients.
Patrick first presented at the RCS 20th Anniversary International Conference in Brisbane this year and received overwhelming feedback and interest.
Building on this interest, RCS approached Patrick to return to Australia to deliver a series of training courses on Subtle Energy and Geomancy in the Australian landscape and co-deliver the course with the support of RCS’s Garry McDouall.
For those who participated, they found the content based theory and background principles of the workshop very beneficial for their business, to experience Subtle Energy and learn first hand how to apply their new skills to the landscape and their own properties is priceless.
Many of the attendees at the Yeppoon and Dubbo workshops have had experience or exposure to Subtle Energy in business and human health through biodynamic principles and found the course a great addition to their tool box for improving productivity and well being.
Mrs Bev Hamilton, a client of RCS thoroughly enjoyed the experience at the workshop and says from a business perspective she got a great deal out of the presentation, participation, content & intent. “The workshop opened up a whole realm of possibilities & capabilities to implement on farm” says Mrs Hamilton.
Both the Yeppoon and Dubbo courses exceeded expectations and we are looking forward to delivering the second level of the Quantum Leap course and facilitating on farm visits with Patrick in 2011.
For more information about Quantum Leap Level One workshop you can visit our website which has a detailed section on the course material and topics. This can be viewed at RCS - Empowering People - Programs
What is happening with carbon farming?
7 January 2011
With carbon farming bringing new economic opportunities to farmers, the big question now being asked is what stage the government are up to with the initiative.
The best source of up to date information can be found on the Australian Government Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency website, http://climatechange.gov.au/cfi
However, currently with the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) and the offset scheme being created it will be some time until we have some direct answers.
The new carbon farming initiative for landholders, farmers and forest growers will include detailed information on legislation to help develop carbon credit systems.
The initiative will also help fast-track methodologies for offset projects and help develop tools and information to assist landholders and farmers navigate and benefit from the growing carbon market.
On the 22 November 2010, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the Hon Greg Combet AM MP released a consultation paper which is full of proposed options to help design the carbon offset scheme.
If you are interested in voicing your opinion with the proposed scheme everyone is invited to do so, details on suggesting your feedback are included in the consultation paper but must be submitted by the 21st of January 2011.
Carbon farming has been slowly developing over the years. Evan and Robin Pensini are among those RCS clients making the appropriate grazing system and land management changes to give future generations a head start in the carbon industry.
In July, the Australian Farm Journal reported on the work being done by the Pensini family and the benefits of rest-based grazing principles for carbon sequestration. To read in more detail about what was involved in the Carbon Capture Project log onto our news link website.
